Dry flowers
From style magazines to Instagram, we can no longer ignore it: dried flowers are completely on-trend again. Not only bloggers are delighted with our flowers, they are also abundantly present at the recent home and interior fairs in Paris and Cologne. In the current spirit of the age, we see a lot of looking back into the past: in fashion, interior and also in flowers. They fit perfectly into the current trend in which slow living and nostalgia have been emphasized.
Buy dried flowers
Dried flowers remain popular in all shapes and colours. A popular decoration in Social Media is the “Flower Cloud”. A floating object that consists entirely of mostly dried flowers. By using fragile-looking flowers and grasses, the arrangement looks a bit like a cloud.
The flower cloud in our example is made of dried grasses: various types of pampas, arundo, festuca and miscanthus. These grasses have been supplemented with some natural looking materials such as lunaria and bleached ruscus.
Different kind of dried flowers
Our webshop has a wide variety of flowers. In the summer all flowers are cut, dried and packed, so that we have our products available year round. The flowers and other crops are purchased directly at our local suppliers. Once harvest comes in, the feedback to our growers is continuously. Thanks to our many years of mutual experience, we can select the most beautiful products together.
Through our experience, we know when flowers are most suitable to be dried in their flowering stage. To preserve the natural appearance as much as possible, flowers are prepared for drying in our drying cells a few hours after they have been cut. The flowers are bundled upside down -to prevent breakage- and dried actively with hot air for at least 24 hours. Also products such as; grasses, decorative materials, preserved moss, shells and botanicals can be found at www.decofleur.com.
Finally, we have some tips and suggestions. If you want to dry flowers yourself, you can hang the bunches of flowers or grasses upside down in a dark, preferably well-ventilated room. Some flower varieties are better suited for drying than others, in general firm flowers maintain their beauty the best.
Some examples of suitable flower types are: helichrysum, thistles, achillea parker, statice, lavender and grains, such as wheat and oats. There are softer flowers such as delphiniums and roses that are suitable for drying. The list is endless, it’s always a good idea to experiment with your own flowers to get your own unique dried beauties.
We have many types of dried flowers, such as colored dried flowers and mini dried flowers.
To maintain quality dried flowers
You can store the flowers by keeping them out of the sun and in a dry place: flowers fade faster in direct sunlight. Also try to touch the flowers as little as possible, the flowers might easily be damaged. If your dried flowers are a bit dusty, you can carefully clean them with a hair dryer: set the hair dryer to the coldest, lowest setting and carefully blow off the dust at a distance from the flowers.
